After the Ramlila Maidan movement, Udapurkar began penning his script. Udapurkar, who has also directed Anna, went to meet Anna Hazare after a year, Anna expressed reluctance a couple of times. However, later he agreed to meet him for five minutes.
Impressed with Shashank’s earnestness, Hazare gave the nod after a three-and-a-half hour narration. Shashank recalls, “The five-minute meeting with Annaji set the basis of the film. I’m honoured he trusted me and gave me the opportunity to make the film.”
Anna is a biopic based on the life of social activist Anna Hajare. The film, featuring Shashank as Anna Hazare, also stars Tanishaa Mukherji, Rajit Kapoor, Sharat Saxena and Govind Namdeo.
